How does the Carbon Laser Facial work:
The carbon laser facial is an exfoliating and resurfacing treatment. It uses activated carbon powder and advanced Q-switch lasers to treat many conditions. It can exfoliate the skin four times deeper than a peel, but it is completely non-invasive and gentle on your skin making it suitable for all skin type and all ages. Promising “collagen remodelling”, it is known to help to even skin tone and reduce the appearance of fine line, scars and pigmentation. In general, it is great for anti-ageing, pigmentation, redness, rosacea, acne, dehydrated and dull skin. It is also particularly beneficial for people with oily skin, blackheads, and enlarged pores because it blasts these issues out of the skin.
The laser energy works in two ways: first, it gently targets the melanin (pigmentation) in the cells breaking it up for your body’s natural removal processes. Then it heats deep in the dermis causing the skin to contract and stimulate collagen production.
What to expect during the treatment:
Before your treatment, you’ll have an in-depth consultation with Claire to help you understand more about the carbon laser facial and to make sure it is a suitable treatment for you.
At the beginning of the treatment your skin will be cleansed before applying a layer of activated liquid carbon to the skin, where it penetrates deep into the pores. The carbon is left on the skin to set for 5 minutes after which we use the laser to slowly pass over the carbon covering the full facial area. When the laser is passed over the area, it destroys the carbon, taking dead skin cells, contaminants and oil with it. The laser zaps a little loudly as it passes across your face, but you feel nothing more than a tingle & a slight warmth. We complete the treatment with a thorough cleanse to remove any excess carbon and finish off with a moisturising balm leaving you with beautiful, glowing skin.
What to expect after the treatment:
The carbon laser facial is a completely safe skin treatment, with no reports of major skin complications or painful side effects. Post-treatment, you may notice some slight redness, and experience some tingling, but these will both subside within a few hours post treatment and can be soothed with aloe vera gel if required. One of the best features of this treatment is that there is no downtime required, and you will be able to resume daily activities straight away.
Aftercare:
We recommend keeping the skin clean and dry and avoiding hot water, swimming, sauna’s, and hot tubs for 12 hours following the treatment. After this your normal skin routine can resume and makeup can be worn. Try to avoid oily makeup, however, as this will clog your pores again. Natural mineral foundations are always a good idea. Results can be enhanced with minimal sun exposure, a reduction in stress and the absence of smoking. We recommend using SPF 50 sun cream to protect the area for at least 1 month following on from treatment, as failure to do so could result in hyperpigmentation.
How many sessions are required:
Results are accumulative, each carbon facial treatment builds upon the previous one. Once the regeneration of cell turnover is started, the best way to keep making improvement to the skin is to commit to a course of treatments. We recommend a course of 6 treatments, to take place every 3 weeks for the best in beautiful, long-lasting results. Following this, we recommend 1-2 facials every 6 months to maintain the results and give your skin a boost.
